The NPVEP is a non-government, non-profit, and non-partisan association of professionals, academics, private individuals and public officials (acting on their personal capacities) with the shared aspiration to prevent the spread of violent extremism as one way to overcome the threat of terrorism in the Philippines.
The NPVEP was conceptualized in 2017 when the Philippine Institute for Peace, Violence and Terrorism Research (PIPVTR) participated in the Conference on Peace and the Prevention of Violent Extremism in Southeast Asia organized in Manila at the sidelines of the summit of the Association for Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The idea of forming the NPVEP attracted further support from pertinent stakeholders during the Forum on Violent Extremism held in Cotabato City on 28 September 2017 organized by the City Government with the support of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Philippine National Police (PNP), members of the academe, students, journalists, businesspersons, civil society leaders, religious preachers, and interested individuals.
PIPVTR convenes the NPVEP to critically support the implementation of the National Action Plan for Countering and Preventing Violent Extremism (NAP-CPVE) of the Philippine government and to complement the efforts of other likeminded organizations in addressing the multifaceted problems of violent extremism in the Philippines.
